When we hear ‘let go,’ we may imagine leaving, abandoning, or caring about nothing. Then letting go becomes one more task the self must accomplish.
Clinging is not cherishing
Cherishing knows that things change and meets them carefully while they are here. Clinging refuses change and demands that life remain in place. One softens the heart; the other exhausts it.
We hold tightly to a relationship, identity, or success not only for what it is, but because we fear that without it we will no longer deserve love.
Release the need to prove yourself
Letting go is not ordering yourself not to care. Grief, longing, and hope may remain. We simply stop asking them to prove who we are.
When the hand loosens, what stays can be cared for, and what must leave finally has room to leave.
“Letting go does not push the world away. It stops asking the world to complete us.”
