A person can be alone without ever entering solitude. A phone, a memory, or an imagined conversation can carry the whole world into the room.
Do not flee into noise—or quiet
Sometimes we chase company so we do not have to feel emptiness. Sometimes we chase quiet to avoid relationship. The room may be still while the mind keeps running.
Real solitude does not require leaving everyone. It is staying with your experience when no one is there to confirm you, and not using other people's eyes to define you when they are.
Sit with the open space
An empty moment does not need to be filled at once. Let boredom, loneliness, and uncertainty appear. Watch them arise, remain, and change. No feeling owns the sky forever.
When the empty space is no longer an enemy, solitude changes from the absence of someone into the presence of your whole experience.
“Silence is not the absence of sound, but the end of chasing every sound.”
