Practice Does Not Take You Away from Life

If clarity can exist only on a meditation cushion, life has not tested it yet.

It is easy to imagine practice somewhere quieter: no urgency, no conflict, no difficult person waiting for us. Yet what disturbs us is not only outside.

Every irritation is an entrance

A queue, traffic, misunderstanding, or a broken plan may seem far from spiritual practice. These moments show exactly how the mind grasps, rejects, and protects an image of itself.

Meditation lets us know the mind in stillness. Daily life asks whether that knowing remains when the world refuses to follow our wishes.

Complete one movement

Wash one bowl and only wash this bowl. Listen without preparing your reply. While walking, know that the foot is touching the ground. None of this is grand, but each act gathers a mind scattered across past and future.

Practice does not add a special kind of life. It reduces our absence from the life already here.

The place of practice is this ordinary thing that has not yet received your full presence.
